Homeowners, windstorm and flood, put together the right way for the coast.
On the Coastal Bend, protecting a home often takes more than one policy. We help you fit homeowners, windstorm and flood coverage together so there are no gaps after a storm.
Nueces County is one of the 14 first-tier coastal counties served by the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA). Many homeowners policies here exclude wind and hail, and that coverage then comes from TWIA or a private windstorm market.
TWIA generally requires proof that a home meets the Texas windstorm building code, usually a WPI-8 certificate, for homes built, added on to or re-roofed since 1988. It may also require flood insurance for buildings in high-risk flood zones. We'll check what your home needs before you apply.
Flood is never covered by a standard homeowners policy. National Flood Insurance Program policies usually carry a 30-day waiting period, and carriers commonly stop writing new coverage once a storm is in the Gulf. The time to set this up is before hurricane season, not during it.
Higher wind and flood exposure, where windstorm certificates and flood zones drive the options.
Close to Laguna Madre and the bay. Flood coverage deserves a serious look even outside mapped zones.
Older and higher-value homes where roof age, replacement cost and wind deductibles matter most.
Inland, but still in a first-tier county. We'll confirm how wind and hail are handled on your policy.
It depends on the policy. Many coastal policies exclude wind and hail, which then needs a separate windstorm policy such as TWIA. Flood is never covered by a standard homeowners policy.
A certificate of compliance showing a structure meets the Texas windstorm building code. TWIA generally requires one for homes built, added on to or re-roofed since 1988.
NFIP policies usually take effect after 30 days. Some private flood policies have shorter waiting periods. Either way, carriers commonly stop writing new coverage when a storm is threatening.
A wind or named-storm deductible figured as a percentage of your home's insured value rather than a flat dollar amount. We'll show you the dollar figure before you choose.
Yes. We'll look across standard and specialty markets for replacement coverage, and coordinate windstorm and flood around it.
